Performance of musical selections from Denise Randall's Opera, Fanahy Hira, at Amazing Things Arts Center in Framingham, MA.
Fanahy Hira is an opera and a love story, set in the days leading up to the American Civil War. As the story emerges, an African slave woman captured in Madagascar named Hira finds love in Triae, a Spanish sailor, onboard a slave ship bound for the United States. Hira and Triae through their trials and tribulations on the ship demonstrate great moral examples of courage and committment in a time of American history where cruelty and injustice for blacks and first-nation people was the norm. From these young lovers, there is no "us blacks and 'dem whites," only a collective Humanity.
